Reverse Culture Shock

So after being here for a week, there’s several things that I still have to get used to or forgot about American culture.

  • FOOD AND CLOTHES ARE SO CHEAP. In-n-out double double = $2.20 or something. Byron burger in London = 8 pounds.
  • TIPPING. I’d rather include tip in the price already instead of add it on top of what I’m already paying. I miss not tipping in London.
  • GOOD, SPEEDY RESTAURANT SERVICE. In Europe, people want you to enjoy the food, so they don’t give you the bill unless you ask for it. It’s basically an hour ordeal to get food out, but here it’s like SHNAP. You go cooks and waiters. WORK IT.
  • HULU and PANDORA. There wasn’t any access to that in London. I’m so glad to be able to access it here. Catch up on my shows.
  • THE AMAZING SUNNY WEATHER. Seriously California. I never knew how lucky we were weather-wise until I actually had to brave 30 degree weather. It’s like summer right now during Christmas.
  • TRASH CANS EVERYWHERE. It’s a struggle find a trashcan in London haha. enough said.
  • CHRISTMAS CHEER. London definitely had a lot more Christmas cheer than Orange County. There’s Winter Wonderland and Regent Street Christmas lights, but here it’s just Birch and Kraemer WHICH IS FUN but is the only super Christmasy thing to see other than Disneyland.
  • STYLE. Gah. I miss London style HAHA. I’m just not used to the sudden change in fashion HAHA. I go to places way too dressed up now HAHA. I sound like such a douchebag.
  • SERVING SIZES. Okay America. SHNAP. These serving sizes can serve a whole family. Too much for me to handle HAHA.
  • 4G PHONES. I never really had to text people abroad. Now I have to respond HAHA. Just got to get used to it.
  • SPACE. So in London, all the space is consolidated. My shower was as big as my small walk-in closet. THERE IS SO MUCH SPACE HERE in houses. Love it.
  • FLUSHING THE TOILET. In London, there are two buttons. SUPER CONFUSING for me because I never know what to push, but there’s no struggle here ANYMORE (even though having two buttons is more eco-friendly).
  • CROSSING THE STREET. After crossing the street EVERY SINGLE DAY in London, it was a struggle on which way to look. When I drive, it’s not an issue because it’s muscle memory, BUT when I walk, I immediately look the wrong way. Thank God Jazmine is with me to make sure I don’t cross the street and look the wrong way.
  • ACCENT. obviously haha.
  • DRIVING. So I became so accustomed to walking and taking the TUBE everywhere. I miss the cardio and all that jazz. I miss being able to access everything by foot, but not going to lie, driving is such a luxury. It’s just going to suck when those fun nights come. Can’t drive home from a night of TOO much fun.
  • ASIANS and DIFFERENT CULTURES EVERYWHERE. I like the integration and assimilation of America’s immigrants. People from all cultures interact and take part in American culture. It isn’t fully like that in London. It’s really nice to see here.

and lastly……

  • MY OTHER BFS. I really miss the girls. I’m having the time of my life right now with my best friends here and stuff, but after seeing the girls almost everyday for four months, it’s like WHERE MY GIRLS AT?!?!? I wish they lived next door to me right now.  I really got close to them, and I can’t wait to see those sexy faces when I get back haha.

It feels good to be back in Socal. CANT WAIT TO GO TO LONDON AGAIN. Yee.
